The first thing we do when handling your popcorn ceiling removal is to determine whether or not your ceiling might contain asbestos—which means determining when your house was built. If your home was constructed in the mid-80s or earlier, then asbestos will have likely been used. We’ll have you send a sample of your popcorn ceiling so we can test it; once we confirm there’s no asbestos, we’ll move forward.

The biggest part of the job isn’t actually removing the popcorn ceiling—it’s the prep. We’ll cover all the floors, protect the walls and trim, and cover and seal off furniture to make sure that everything is protected from dust.

After we’ve covered everything, we’ll take a look at the ceiling to determine how we’ll handle your ceiling replacement and installation. After the sanding is done, we’ll coat the ceilings with a joint compound that will make it smoother.

Texturing is the next step. What sort of texture we use will depend on the customer. Afterward, we’ll prime the ceiling and apply two to three coats of paint. Then we just need to clean up the area and remove all the protective coverings. We’ll clean up everything entirely—there won’t be any sign that we were ever there.
